St
Patrick's Day Greetings from An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen T.D.Message of
Good Wishes to the Irish Community abroad,
St. Patrick’s Day 2010
from An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen T.D.
I am pleased to have this opportunity to send my warm greetings to the Irish
community worldwide. St. Patrick’s Day is a special occasion for all friends of
Ireland.
I believe the goodwill Ireland enjoys all over the world is due, in no small
measure, to the positive contribution Irish communities like yours have made to
their adopted homes.
Our emigrant communities have always maintained a strong affinity with our
native land. 2009 was a very tough year economically in Ireland. But Government
has taken crucial decisions which are underpinning recovery and we need to build
on this for the future. We can be optimistic about our future provided we do the
right things – however difficult – to shape it to our advantage.
The global economic market is competitive but with an Irish Diaspora of over 80
million people claiming Irish descent, we have a natural world wide network to
tap into. My Government has established a Global Irish Network consisting of
leading business and cultural figures from the global Irish community. This
network will be crucial to refocusing and refining our brand as we seek to
further develop Ireland’s footprint in the world market.
St. Patrick’s Day is a special day when we turn our thoughts in celebration to
our friends and families – wherever they may be. The, St. Patrick’s Day
festivities, will be echoed throughout the world, a truly global community of
Irish people will celebrate together. ‘Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh’.
Brian Cowen T.D.
