Championship Chat: Bray to play for Royals

Meath

Corner-forward Stephen Bray has been cleared to play for the Royals against Kildare at Croke Park on Sunday. Bray was sent off for his club Navan O’Mahony’s recently and it had been thought that Bray would be suspended for the clash with the Lilywhites.

Cork

Talented young forward Paudie O’Sullivan will miss the rest of the hurling season.
The younger brother of Diarmuid was mentioned by manager Gerald McCarthy as a possible contender for the full-forward spot this season, but missed the entire League campaign with injury and will now be absent for the Championship with a cruciate ligament injury.

Sligo

The footballers enjoyed a very comfortable win over New York in the first round of the Connacht Championship.
The final score of 2-18 to 1-3 fully reflected the dominance of the Yeats County men with the goals coming courtesy of Eamon O’Hara and Kieran Quinn.

Offaly

Hurling manager John McIntyre believes that the decision to relegate the Faithful County men to Division 2 of the hurling league could be the “death of hurling in this area”.
McIntyre believes that it will be difficult to generate interest among players and spectators in the county for matches in the lower division. “Football is the major game in Offaly at present, but this is a hurling county and if you want to see the game develop you have to keep it alive in core hurling counties,” he said.

Donegal

Brendan Devenney is expected to return to full training this week.
The St. Eunan’s clubman has not trained since the League final win over Mayo as he nurses a cruciate injury but the full-forward will be fit for the Championship opener with Armagh.

Waterford

Ken McGrath is now expected to be fit for the Deise men’s Munster clash with Cork or Clare in the Munster Championship.
The former All-Star broke his thumb while playing for his club but that injury is expected to heal in time.
