Wicklow awaits London ladies

On Sunday London’s lady footballers face their second test in Division Three B of the National Football League.

The game is being played in Dublin and people will be sitting up and taking notice of this London team after their thrilling one-point victory over the All-Ireland champions Kilkenny at Thomastown.

London had two newcomers to their panel — Grace Lynch and Linda Lodge — and with Claire Towey, Anne Marie Mohan and Geraldine Leonard stepping up to starting positions they went out full of determination to claim Kilkenny’s scalp.

London went on to record a historic victory on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-5. What a game.

London are coming along nicely in training but will face a tough task against Wicklow — a side with some very fine footballers.

One of their players, Caitriona McKeon, is a former Fr. Murphys and London star and will probably line-up at centre-back for the Garden County which would bring her up against her former colleague at Fr. Murphys Shauna Keogh — both fine footballers.
