We must win an All-Ireland within two years says Loughnane

By Staff Reporter

Ger Loughnane says ‘failure is not an option’ for Galway following the confirmation of his position as Galway senior hurling manager.
The at times controversial figure has vowed to win an All-Ireland title within two years.
He said: “With the players Galway have, we will be judged as failures if we do not win the Liam McCarthy Cup in two years. I have committed myself to this job for three seasons, but I expect that we will have been successful within two of those or I will resign.”
The former Clare boss was confirmed as manager at a County Board meeting recently along with Sean Treacy, Brendan Lynskey and Michael Murray.

Former Limerick manager Liam Kerins is to manage Laois next season after having his appointment ratified this week.
Kerins lead Limerick to three Munster finals during his tenure with the Treatymen and succeeds his fellow Kerryman Mick O’Dwyer as Laois manager.

Mickey Moran is expected to remain as manager of the Mayo senior footballers next year, despite the Connacht champions collapse in the All-Ireland final.
Moran and his management team will be re-appointed at a County Board meeting in the coming weeks.
The Derry man had expressed his willingness to stay on no matter what happened in the final.

The Cork ladies football team defeated Armagh to win the ladies senior title, having claimed the camogie crown already this season.
Sligo ladies won the junior title, they had lost two previous finals, and they will now contest the senior competition next year.

International Rules manager Sean Boylan has called the former Laois underage GAA star Brendan Quigley, who currently plays Australian Rules, into the Irish squad for the matches in two weeks.
He joins Kerry’s Kieran Donaghy as an addition to the panel, while Steven Cluxton of Dublin has withdrawn.

It seems increasingly likely that former Wexford football boss Pat Roe will take over as manager of Offaly.
The Portlaoise native was overlooked for the manager’s job in his native county, but has expressed an interest in taking charge of Offaly and he is expected to be appointed later this week.
