Treacys refuse to play County final

The next meeting of the competition control committee will decide whether
Sean Treacys will face any further punishment following their refusal
to play the county minor final on Sunday.
Treacys say that they objected to the choice of Con Dee as the referee
for the match soon after they received the news that he was to be in charge.
Con Dee is a veteran administrator in London GAA and as chairman of the
referee committee he chooses which officials take charge of each game.
The Irish Post understands that Mr Dee was asked to step aside from the
game and refused to do so.
When Treacys emerged for the match and noticed that Mr Dee was still to
be the referee they refused to play saying that they did not have confidence
in him.
Treacys have forfeited the final, and may well be banned from the competition
as punishment for their actions.
This episode is deeply embarrassing for London GAA. A large crowd had
gathered for the match which was scheduled to throw-in at noon.
With the teams on the pitch Treacys suddenly pulled the plug angry that
their initial objection to the referee had apparently been ignored.
They refused to play the game.
The Treacys’ players then left the pitch and said that they would
not return while the referee declined to withdraw from the game so one
of the showpiece occasions of the London hurling season couldn’t
take place.
Such action is described as unprecedented by one senior London official
and the next meeting of the CCC will determine whether any further action
will be taken against Sean Treacys. |
