Time to get behind the Exiles

By Graham Clifford

The official London GAA supporter’s club was launched this week by President elect of the Association Nicky Brennan.

The aim of the club is to ease the burden on the County Board by raising funds for the county sides. Chairman Noel O’Sullivan said the organisation is urgently required and will cater for all London teams.

He said: “County teams were feeling they weren’t getting enough financial support so last year we decided to set in place the groundwork for a supporters club which would ease the burden on the GAA in London.”

The London hurler’s Nicky Rackard Cup victory in 2005 accelerated planning and the supporters club say they’ve received positive feedback for their initiative.

The club will offer two types of packages for members. Private membership which will cost £25 and means those who sign up will receive a free London GAA polo shirt.

Perhaps the real money-spinner though will come in terms of co-operative membership. The supporter’s club are offering a package costing £1,000 and those who avail of the offer will be able to advertise their company on boards at Ruislip and in any match programs published.

As well as this the co-operative member will be entered into a draw for All-Ireland final football and hurling tickets.

Chairman O’Sullivan added: “We’ve different initiatives planned for the year ahead and hopefully London GAA fans will get behind their teams and join up.”
