This week in the Eircom League: Derry to add to Bohs’ woe

Derry have started to turn in the sort of performances which yield points in recent weeks and they will be confident of building on that when they face an out-of-sorts Bohemians at the Brandywell on Friday.

Steven Kenny’s Derry City struggled for goals at the start of the season but main marksman Mark Farren is starting to hit his stride and with that has come a resurgence for the Candystripes.

Bohemians had the worst away record of any team in the top flight last season. This is due to their midfielders sitting deep and creating few attacking opportunities.

However their 4-2 victory over Waterford United at the weekend suggests the Gypsies may now concentrate on a more attacking style of play.

The Candystripes have no fresh injury concerns going into this one and confidence will be high after they defeated Finn Harps and dominated when claiming a draw against crack Irish league side Linfield in midweek.

With their game against Shelbourne having been called off due to a waterlogged pitch at the weekend the Foylesiders should be fresh and hungry

for this one as they look to make up the ground on their title rivals Cork, who have stolen a march on them so far this season.

Bohs boss Gareth Farrelly has an injury crisis to contend with down Phibsborough Way with Des Byrne, Fergal Harkin Jason McGuiness and Mark O’Brien all out.

However Vinny Arkins and JP Kelly are ready to return after missing the game against Waterford through suspension and flu respectively.

With Bohs shorn of so many top players it’s hard to see them claiming anything from this trip to a Derry City side which is improving at a rapid rate after a steady start to the season.

Verdict: Home win
