| Selection problems for Dunning ahead
of Clare game By
David Thorpe
London football manager Noel Dunning has selection head-aches all over
the park going into this game against a strong Clare side on Sunday.
Chris Donnellan, Colm Foody and Danny O’Connor are all definitely
out due to injury while Johnny Niblock is doubtful.
Andy Gallagher has left the panel and with Eamonn Sweeney and JP Boyle
having returned to Ireland the Exiles attacking options are severely limited.
Brendan’s clubman Niall Clinton may play some part.
The defence has been London’s best unit in this year’s competition
but Dunning must now contend with the unavailability of full-back Paddy
Callaghan.
He said: “It’s like building a new team. The league is all
about preparing for the Connacht championship
“I think we are getting the ball out of defence well but just lack
that cutting edge upfront and being without all those forwards will not
aid that process.
“There were a lot of encouraging things to take form the Donegal
performance. In particular we defended excellently against some of the
best forwards in Ireland and a few lads — particularly Paul Earley
— were very solid.
“But it’s difficult to lose all those players when you are
rebuilding. The Clare game is a match on the road to building for the
future.”
Clare haven’t set the world alight in this year’s league campaign
but they are an extremely tough and experienced side and in Ordan O’Dwyer,
they have a player who would challenge for a place in most inter-county
sides.
