Plucky Dubs continue to shock giants

The league table doesn’t lie. Dublin are the in-form team of 2007 and they proved that victory over Galway and a draw with Kilkenny were no flashes-in-the-pan with a thoroughly-brilliant display to cause yet another upset over Limerick.

If Dublin beat Antrim this week they will top the division as the only unbeaten side in the group and the victory would guarantee the Metropolitans a place in the play-offs.

Despite missing ace forward David Curtin on Sunday the Blues managed to pick off 22 points a total Dublin teams of the past would have merely dreamt about.

Afterwards Dublin manager Tommy Naughton told reporters: “Sure 22 points is good scoring and I thought we played very well.

“If you got that score every day you’d be happy. But then again Limerick had an awful lot of goal chances and we rode our luck a little again.”

The underdogs picked up where they left off last week against Galway and in a first-half where the free taking of Kevin O’Reilly was a feature they led by 0-13 to 1-8 at the break. The hosts couldn’t get to grips with Dublin’s energetic and well-organised side who now must fancy their chances of progress in this year’s All-Ireland Championship.

The Limerick faithful much like their Kilkenny and Galway counterparts before them found the drama unfolding in front of them hard to take as Dublin maintained their advantage until the final whistle.

In the second-half O’Reilly was on song again hitting dead balls over from every angle. Limerick’s Pat Tobin tried to close the deficit with two fine scores but Richie Bennis’ men simply had no answer to Dublin’s resourcefulness.
