Parnells and Round Towers through to semis

The first real shock of this year’s London SFC saw Parnells dump defending champions St. Brendans out of the competition.

This was a Brendans team shorn of a host of their best players but that should take nothing away from an industrious, efficient and talented Parnells outfit.

The Blues were the better side from the throw-in racing into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead

on the quarter-hour mark with excellent points from David O’Sullivan and Eanna Kavangh.

The game was effectively ended as a contest in the seven minutes before half-time when Richard O’Sullivan and Colm Fuller goaled for Parnells.

O’Sullivan’s goal was the result of a series of intricate passes while Fuller’s score took advantage of lax defending from the county champions.

Brendans made something of a match of it in the second-half scoring a late goal courtesy of Paddy Bowles but it’s the Parnells who advance to a semi-final showdown with Tir Chonaill Gaels.

Round Towers seldom moved out of second gear as they proved much too strong for St. Clarets on Sunday.

The boys in blue weren’t long in building up a big lead with Shane O’Sullivan and Ollie Bennett hitting early points and Noel Roche contributing a goal to leave four points between the sides after 10 minutes.

Towers never looked like relinquishing their lead having far too much pace for their opponents.

Clarets did manager to salvage something from the second-half of the game when a penalty from Martin Hession offered a late consolation.
