O’Gara backs up comments
Fly-half Ronan O’Gara helped Munster to one of his provinces most
famous victories against Leicester on Sunday and vindicated his comments
earlier in the week that English rugby is over hyped.
In the pouring rain of Welford Road O’Gara held his nerve to slot
over a penalty in the dying seconds to round off a magnificent display
for both himself and the Munster team.
O’Gara’s comments had angered the rugby community on this
side of the Irish Sea but closer inspection of the weekend’s results
show the Corkonian knows what he’s talking about.
All three Irish provinces won their respective games in the Heineken
Cup against strong opposition while the three Welsh representatives also
recorded victories. In sharp contrast only Wasps could keep the St. George’s
flag flying high with a narrow victory over Castres.
After enduring a poor Magner’s League campaign Munster reacquainted
themselves with the competition they love in some style. In a game played
at a tremendous pace it was always going to be tight at the end.
After tries from Donnacha O’Callaghan and David Wallace in the first-half
the champions seemed likely to take the spoils but a second-half rally
from Leicester saw them take the lead with only minutes remaining.
But O’Gara capped off an interesting week for himself by converting
his kick to send the Munster fans in the crowd into a state of euphoria.
