O’Dwyer’s Laois waltz into semis

IN DIVISION 1B a typically fierce midlands derby between Laois and Kildare yielded a 0-10 0-10 draw. The result sends Laois into the knock-out stages of the league, while allowing Kildare to maintain their divisional status.

An untidy and niggly game was lit-up by the performances of John Doyle who contributed eight points to the Lillywhites total, and Chris Conway who was excellent for Laois.

Galway’s hammering of an out-of-sorts Down in Newcastle ensures the Tribesmen’s place in the quarter finals. Meath are relegated to the league’s second tier despite defeating Derry, with Daithi Regan their best player on the day.

The Royals are joined in relegation by neighbours Wexford, who put up their best performance of the campaign when losing by only four points to Armagh.

In Division 2A Donegal were easily the best team in this division, a position they sealed by defeating Roscommon at the weekend. Limerick joined Roscommon in the top tier next season by defeating Leitrim 0-13 to 0-11. London finished rock-bottom of the division following their loss to Carlow at the weekend.

In Division 2B, the big news was the Waterford footballers defeat of promotion-chasing Cavan at Breffni Park on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-9. That result deprived Cavan of promotion. Louth topped the group despite losing 2-8 to 1-8 to Westmeath. That result sealed promotion for the lakes county men.
