| Maughan critical of London footballers
lack of motivation By DAVID THORPE
In the wake of London’s
17-point mauling at the hands of Roscommon at the weekend, Rossies manager
John Maughan claimed the Exiles “didn’t look motivated”.
Roscommon dominated from start to finish with the Exiles scoring only
three times — all from promising Tir Chonaill Gaels star Andy Gallagher.
Rather than extol his own team’s performance Maughan questioned
the loser’s attitude.
He said: “London were poor on the day. They did not look motivated.
No matter what level of football you are playing at you have to make things
difficult for the opposition and London did not do that to us.”
The Exiles will be hoping for a significant improvement in their fortunes
when they take on a rapidly improving Leitrim at Ruislip in two weeks.
The London County Board are hoping to re-ignite a supporters club in the
region. Various fans organisations have existed over the years to help
the Exiles but these have been moribund in recent years.
The county board officials felt that in the wake of the success of the
London hurlers in particular that a new supporters group was necessary
to help the various London teams progress further in the years ahead.
The official launch of the supporters club will take place in the Crown
Moran Hotel in Cricklewood on March 21. There will be special guests and
further details will be announced closer to the date. Application forms
are available from various clubs around the county.
This Sunday’s opening Division 2B National Hurling League game between
London and Kerry at Ruislip will commence at 1.30pm and not 2.30pm as
originally advertised.
