| London one win away from safety

London Hurling manager Mick O’Dea describes Sunday’s clash
with Roscommon as one of the most important games in recent times. Should
the Exiles win, they would justifiably remain in Division 2B. But defeat
would see them compete in a relegation play-off final of sorts against
Wicklow. The losers of that game would drop to Division 3A.
O’Dea’s main concern is that should relegation come about
he would lose the core of his improving side.
London will be without key players Darragh Smyth and Eamon Leamy who will
be away on holidays. Leamy has been a rock for the Exiles this year while
Darragh Smyth has also contributed to London’s threat. It’s
not all doom and gloom selection-wise for O’Dea though. Dubliner
Sean Mcloughlin should feature for the first time this year. The defender
may just be the type of player London need at the back, a department which
has leaked points during the league.
Sunday’s opponents Roscommon finished second from bottom in Division
2A with just one victory against Wicklow. But O’Dea isn’t
underestimating them.
He said: “They’re not a bad side. While they will put it up
to us we are confident of victory.”
London trainer Gary Telford has been concentrating on fitness over the
last two weeks.
A victory on Sunday would be just reward for London this year. While the
side finished bottom of Division 2B they suffered some misfortune in their
recent games and believe they are due a break. |
