London minors reign supreme in the states The
London minor team successfully defended their Intercontinental Youth Championship
title recently in Chicago.
They played selection teams from New York and the North American County
Board to reach the fina where they defeated New York.
The competition was re-formatted from last year and now saw London face
county selections from New York and the North American County Board.
The young Exiles saw off the lads from the Big Apple by 2-13 to 1-7 in
their first game courtesy of goals from the impressive Adrian Moyles and
Daniel Campbell.
In the semi-final London held on to secure a 1-9 to 1-6 win over a North
American selection.
Comprised of players from San Francisco, Boston and host city Chicago
the American side provided a stern test for London and trailed by the
slimmest of margins at half-time.
In excellent form Moyles was at the heart of the Exiles’ attack
and Daniel Campbell netted his second goal of the Championships to secure
safe passage to the final for the defending Champions London despite a
late rally from the Americans.
In the final London found themselves up against New York again knowing
that playing at their best they could hold on to the Intercontinental
throne.
Gooch McGahern steadied the ship for London goaling early in the second-half
despite intense pressure from the New Yorkers.
As the game entered its final minutes London upped a gear to pull away
with late points from Daniel Campbell and Aaron Somers insuring they would
once again be crowned Intercontinental champions.
