Limerick edge out Galway
Galway 0-13
Limerick 0-14
Allianz NHL Division 1B
All-Ireland finalists
Galway remain pointless in Division 1B after the narrowest of defeats
to a plucky Limerick outfit. Emerging victorious by 0-14 to 0-13 Limerick
had reason to celebrate as Brian Begley made his first competitive start
for the Shannonsiders in two-and-a-half years.
Limerick started well and defensively battered Galway’s lightweight
forwards. T J Ryan in particular was a rock at the back for Limerick blocking
two goal-bound efforts by Galway sharpshooter Niall Healy.
At half-time Limerick led 0-9 to 0-4 though concerns existed for their
mentors as the strength of the wind indicated a severe second-half backlash
was coming from the hosts. However Galway could never get back into the
game despite the best efforts of Ger Farragher who scored seven frees.
It was another loss for the Tribesmen and another step forward by a strong
Limerick.
Kilkenny easily overcame Tipperary by 0-19 to 0-10 despite home keeper
Brendan Cummins turning in a man-of-the-match performance.
In the only other game in Division 1B Laois remain rooted to the bottom
of the table after suffering a 2-10 to 0-8 defeat to unbeaten Antrim.
