Leinster open five-point gap
Leinster 26 - Ospreys 15
Magners League
Leinster moved five points clear at the summit of the Magners League
thanks to a bonus-point victory over the Neath Swansea Ospreys in a freezing
RDS on Friday night.
Ireland captain Brian O’Dris-coll showed signs of rediscovering
his old form as the Lions swept aside the under-strength visitors.
Shane Jennings, Jamie Hea-slip, Stephen Keogh and Luke Fitzgerald all
went over for the home side who capitalised on second-placed Cardiff’s
home defeat to Edinburgh. Shaun Connor and Ben Lewis touched down for
the visitors.
It was Leinster who grabbed the first try on 25 minutes Jennings scoring
after a quick lineout catch and drive. And four minutes later they had
their second of the night, a Fitzgerald break and interchange with Felipe
Contepomi resulting in Heaslip driving in underneath the posts.
Ospreys responded with a Connor penalty on 33 minutes before the out-half
sneaked through a gap in the home defence three minutes later to notch
his side’s first try.
Leinster hit back inside two minutes, Keogh going over after a neat pass
from Contepomi to give his side a 19-8 interval lead.
Lewis grabbed a late consolation for the Ospreys but the result was never
in doubt. |
