| Lee Carsley destined for Goodison
departure? Lee Carsley’s career at Goodison Park may be
coming to an end as the Toffeemen have reportedly offered the Republic
of Ireland international to Wigan Athletic as part of a player-plus-cash
bid for England under-21 left back Leighton Baines.
Now 33 the dogged midfielder signed for Everton in 2002 and has made over
130 first-team appearances for the Premiership nearly men.
It is understood Everton manager David Moyes is willing to part with £5million
plus the Irish International in exchange for Baines.
The news came as something of a shock to Carsley who signed a one-year
deal at Everton earlier this summer.
If Everton’s bid to sign Baines is successful then Carsley would
see himself lining out alongside Kevin Kilbane again as well as uncapped
Irish striker Caleb Folan.
The no-nonsense midfielder was called back into the international set-up
following the Republic of Ireland’s humiliating 5-2 defeat to Cyprus
last year in the European qualifiers and has since helped solidify Ireland
in the middle of the park.
It is understood that new Wigan Athletic manager Chris Hutchings admires
the honest workman-like attitude Lee Carsley adopts on the pitch and the
Irishman’s style of play would suit the Latics. |
