| Irishman Foran setting SPL ablaze at Motherwell With
Richard Purden
Two wonder goals
from Richie Foran dumped Dundee United 2-0 at the weekend.
Foran even joked his nine-goal tally would be 20 by now if he was in the
striker position.
It was Motherwell’s first win this year despite Foran delivering
some classy performances over the season.
He said: “There’s just a feeling of relief. There’s
no point kidding anyone — we were starting to think we’d never
win a game.
“We’ve played so well in matches this year but got nothing.
Then today, we were average but thankfully United were below average and
we got the win — that’s the way football goes.”
Foran was the nearly man during a CIS Cup battle with Celtic two weeks
ago but it looks as though his luck is beginning to change.
He said: “Even when we missed an early chance you start to think:
‘Is this going to be one of those days again?’.
“I was pleased with the goals and nine for the season is a decent
return.
“I could have gone down for the first one when I was challenged
but I stayed up and slotted it in. That kind of finish is something I
don’t do enough of.
“My natural position is up front but I’ve been playing wide
left for a while here and I don’t mind it. I’ve told the gaffer
I could have had 20 goals by now if I was playing as a striker —
but he just started laughing at me.”
Elsewhere in the SPL ex-Celtic skipper Paul Lambert sensationally quit
as boss of Livingston after only seven months in charge.
He’s the seventh manager since Pearse Flynn took over as chairman
the club.
Lambert said: “I am no longer manger. I gave it my best and everyone
here has been terrific. If a new guy comes in and gets through this patch,
gets the same effort from players and some breaks then they will be fine.
“Pearse has a reputation of having a quicker sword than Zorro but
he has been terrific to me and there will be no bad words from me about
him.
“At the end of the day it is all about results and players. There
is not much you can do when they cross that white line.”
Meanwhile Roy Keane put in a stunning performance in a 1-0 victory for
Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday. |
