Gaels’ force too strong for plucky Harps

For a brief period in the first-half Harlesden Harps threatened to cause a major shock as they played out of their skins against a Neasden side that maintained their senior status with a huge second-half scoring burst.

Harps went in trailing at half-time by 1-6 to 0-7 after falling behind in the first minute after points by Jason Donovan and Barry Comer had given Neasden a 0-2 lead.

By the ninth minute however Harps had turned the tables and raced into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead following a series of points by Ashely O’Halloran ( free), Andy Sheehan (0-2), David Campbell and Kieran Houlihan.

But the Harps were stunned in the 12th minute when Neasden’s Seamus Cummins levelled it up at 1-2 to 0-5 with a well-worked goal and when full-forward Tony Hughes put them

1-3 to 0-5 there was a sense that Harps’ revival might be on the verge of petering out.

To their credit however the Harps battled on bravely. But it was Neasden who kept their noses in front.

Harps added two further points from Sean O’Halloran and Jimmy Howlin but Neasden responed well and two points by Seamus Cummins including a free plus a further minor from Keith Geraghty put Neasden in the driving seat with a half-time lead of 1-6 to 0-7.

Sadly that was as good as it got for Harlesden Harps. Neasden came out for the second-half with the wind at their backs and what what followed did not make pretty viewing as they routed their younger opponents smashing home a huge 2-9 against Harps meagre 0-5.

Neasden simply ran away with this game in the finish. Their second-half goals by Jason Donovan and Stephen Maguire plus a non-stop deluge of points saw them retain their senior status.
