GAA shorts TV Hurling challenge for sporting heroes
Seven Irish sporting heroes are taking part in a GAA bootcamp led by legendary
Cork hurling All-Ireland-winning manager Donal O’Grady.
Guinness Hurling Bootcamp sees Irish international rugby legends Mick
Galwey and Peter Clohessy join Olympic Gold medallist Michael Carruth
as they each try to master the skills of hurling.
Other participants being put to the test include world champion rower
Gearoid Towey from Dublin, football All-Stars Charlie Redmond and Liam
Hassett as well as sports reporter and TV presenter Paul Collins.
The eight-week mini-series which airs on Irish channel TV3 on Thirsday
nights sees the seven Irish sports personalities — all from non-hurling
backgrounds being put through their paces as they attempt to win money
for their respective charities.
Hurling is the fastest game in the world involving unbelievable skill
so in order to train and equip non-hurling sports people with hurling
skills, only the best management team will do.

in the 2004 All-Ireland Championship is joined on Guinness Hurling Bootcamp
by Wexford hurling legend Martin Storey and goalkeeping expert Ger Cunningham.
warwickshire topple gaa giants
Warwickshire finished off the under-16 Anglo-Irish Gaelic football league
in style by beating GAA kingpins Mayo in a nail biting tie in Pairc Na
h’Eireann recently.
The game — part of a project run by Warwickshire Schools GAA and
Connaught GAA aiming to address the drop-off rate of young people taking
part in Gaelic sports after 16 — saw Warwickshire come up against
Roscommon and Mayo on a home and away basis.
After having mixed success in Ireland, Warwickshire lost to Roscommon
in Birmingham but bounced back and disposed of a very skillful Mayo team
by nine points.
The Warwickshire Schools GAA under-12 development squad also got a taste
of Mayo football when county coach Billy McNicolas delivered a skills
workshop for the team’s big day out at Croke Park in July.
Warwickshire under-16 team mentors will now set their sights on the All-Britain
Championship crown this month whilst GAA chiefs in Britain look at ways
of expanding the cross-channel league with Connaught to benefit other
counties. |
