GAA All Star awards planned for British men and ladies

BY LARRY COONEY

PLANS for a joint men’s and ladies London GAA All Stars evening are expected to be confirmed in the coming week. Friday April 28 is the date being considered for a glittering occasion that will honour the achievements of the 15 top players from all four sports, from men’s Gaelic football and hurling to ladies football and camogie.

Bernard ‘Beano’ Collins, who was the organiser of a successful and most enjoyable event last held in October 2004, which honoured the achievements of ladies GAA All Stars exclusively, is optimistic that an even bigger event incorporating men and ladies can be organised. Sponsors are already in place for some of the required funding, but further financial assistance will be required as soon as details are finalised early next week.

“Plans are well-advanced and I believe we can provide another memorable evening for London GAA,” he said. “Last year was a great year here in London with the hurlers winning the Nicky Rackard Cup and London ladies footballers giving a good account of themselves in the Connacht championship. As soon as the venue is confirmed, we will be accepting nominations for the 60 All Star accolades.”
