| Féile Peile festival GAA
chiefs in Britain have announced the final line-up for the Féile
Peile International 2007 in Birmingham between June 1-3.
This year’s 9-a-side festival run by the GAA of Britain and Warwickshire
Juvenile Board will see more teams than ever before.
Over 500 young GAA stars from 25 under-13 boys’ teams and 10 under-14
girls’ teams take to the playing fields of Aston University to compete
for the coveted championship cup and shield competitions.
The impressive line-up of GAA giants from Ireland include Eire Og from
Carlow, Ratoath of Meath and Portlaoise Ladies from Laois.
The Féile Peile International will also have plenty of homegrown
talent on display with teams from Lancashire, Hertfordshire, Yorkshire,
Scotland and London as well as host county Warwickshire.
The festival kicks off on Friday night for visiting Irish teams and local
Warwickshire sides who will take part in the opening ceremony and féile
parade from 7pm at the Irish Centre in Birmingham.
Special guests from Croke Park will be on hand to launch an official welcome
to teams from Britain on Saturday at 10pm before teams take to the field.
The boys’ competition will see five groups of five with one or two
Irish teams facing two teams from Britain and two local Warwickshire sides
in each group.
The girls’ competition will include two groups of five which will
include two Irish teams competing against three local teams.
After a full day of competition, host clubs from around the Midlands will
extend their hospitality with a series of social events for visiting teams
before a return to the playing fields on Sunday for championship and shield
games at 10am.
The girls’ and boys’ finals will begin at 3pm followed by
the closing ceremony at 4pm.
