Derry get off to a flying start

By LARRY COONEY

Roscommon 1-12 Derry 3-13

A goal 40 seconds into the second-half by Derry’s Gregory Biggs killed off any chance Roscommon had of causing a surprise at Knockcroghery.

The prolific Biggs ended up with a tally of 1-9 as Derry picked up their first win of the current campaign.

Dublin 5-23 Wicklow 1-7

Top-of-the-table played bottom in this one-sided Parnell Park encounter with the result never in doubt.

Wicklow got off to a dreadful start when their goalkeeper Joe Driver had to leave the field injured. After that it just got worse.

Dublin’s Kevin Flynn picking up a hat-trick as Dublin continue to impress.

Meath 0-13 Carlow 0-8

Not a game for the hurling purists but Meath won’t mind as they maintain their 100 per cent record in Division 2A.

Down to 14 men with half-an-hour left the Royals had to dig deep to shake off Carlow. Stephen Clynch’s red card for an off-the-ball incident was the only down side to a successful day for Meath.

DIVISION 2B Round up:

Kerry 0-15 Mayo 2-5

After their narrow win over London Kerry made it two wins out of two to top the table. Despite being down by 1-4 to 0-05 at the break Kerry dug deep thanks to the reliable Shane Brick to emerge victorious.

Kildare 1-10 Westmeath 1-14

Westmeath got their league campaign off to a flyer to impose

Kildare’s second defeat of the campaign.

Much is expected from the Lillywhites this year but good work from John Shaw ensured Kildare remained propping up the table.
