Cats backs in race against time
With
the countdown to the All-Ireland hurling final reaching fever pitch Kilkenny
are sweating on the fitness of two star defenders.
All-star corner back JJ Delaney is definitely out of the clash with Cork
after he picked up a knee injury in training last Friday night while talented
full back John Tennyson is struggling with a shoulder injury. The Cats
have hired an oxygen tank to aid the defender’s recovery.
Defence has arguably been the weakest area of the team in recent seasons
and the potential loss of two of their vastly experienced full-back line
would surely dent KIlkenny’s chances of recording a famous victory.
The mood in the Kilkenny camp is downbeat at present with selector Micheal
Dempsey maintaining that: “We will have to improve dramatically
in all areas of the game if we are to beat Cork. We know that improvement
is in us but we haven’t shown our best form this season and with
anything less than that we have no chance of winning.”
There is better news from the Cork camp where manager John Allen reports
no injury scares and says that the Rebels are in fine form ahead of their
bid to win their third consecutive Liam McCarthy Cup.
He said: “We have a settled team, they are around long enough to
know you take nothing for granted we know we can play better than we have
and may the best team win on the day.” |
