Bhoys buoyant as form starts to peak
Top
of the league and top of the entertainment charts is the story of Celtic’s
week as they defeated Dundee United 3-0 thanks to a Scott McDonald hat-trick.
Bhoys fans will have been pleased with the manner of the victory, fast
flowing entertaining and above all attacking football has hardly been
Celtic’s hallmark in recent months, but all of that was in evidence
against Dundee.
McDonald has been one of this season’s most impressive performers
and his goals — each of which were typical poacher’s strikes,
snapping up the loose ball and firing to the net from close range —
have come in some vital matches this season.
With talented right-back Mark Wilson injured Parkhead fans have seen the
return of Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe.
The right-back was released at the tail-end of last season having scored
the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final but having failed to find a
club in England he returned to Parkhead at the start of this season to
provide defensive cover and has proven his worth in the absence of
Wilson.
Ireland fans will have been interested in the form of Aidan McGeady. The
winger may not have lit up the international stage but he is in the form
of his career for Celtic playing a key role in two of the goals scored
by McDonald on Saturday.
If you had asked Celtic fans at the start of the season which player they
feared losing most, goalkeeper Artur Boruc would have been high on the
list having been linked with a move to
Arsenal.
But the Polish international has been erratic for Celtic. Despite keeping
a clean sheet against Dundee he was far from his usual composed self and
with big Champions League nights ahead Celtic will be hoping the keeper
regains his confidence sooner rather than later.
After the blood-and-thunder of the victory over Dundee, Celtic have a
glamour tie against AC Milan to look forward to on Wednesday night.
A result is now more important than ever after the disappointing performance
against Shakthar Donetsk and the clash against Milan offers the perfect
chance for revenge against the Serie A giants who knocked them out of
the competition last season. |
