Division 1
Shannon currently top the Division One league table with 43 points, having
lost just one of their 11 games in the competition this season.
Hot on the heals of the Shannon boys are their local rivals Garryowen
and Dublin outfit Clontarf — both just a point behind having drawn
against
each other earlier in the season and lost one game apiece.
Cork Con. are in danger of being cut adrift of the leaders as a disappointing
recent run leaves them on
38 points just ahead of Belfast Harlequins.
Both of those teams now require a major downturn in the fortunes of the
teams above them if they are to have a hand in this year’s title
race.
At the bottom of the table Carlow and Dublin University look doomed to
relegation.
Carlow have mustered just one win all season and are 14 points adrift
of safety while the Trinity Boys have won just twice.
Blackrock College have rather surprisingly struggled all season and currently
occupy the third relegation spot.
They constantly suffer for having players away on international duty something
which none of their rivals have to endure to the same extent.
Blackrock are just ahead of a Galwegians side who have suffered much
bad luck in their campaign this season and it looks as though one of those
two will be joining Blackrock and Carlow in the Second Division next term.

Division 2
Terenure College look like making a swift return to the top flight topping
the table with a six-point lead on nearest rivals Dolphin and Young Munster
in third on 39 points,
Those three and UCC look to have the promotion spots between them as there
is a 10-point gap back to DLSP in fifth though the Palerstown-based outfit
would probably have settled for a position that high up the table at the
start of the season.
Waterpark are tailed off at the bottom of the table with just four points
and seem set for relegation to Irish rugby’s bottom tier. The Co.
Clare outfit only won promotion to this grade last season and in truth
with largely the same squad of players they never looked at home in this
division.
