Reformed heroin addict tells her story

REFORMED heroin addict Rachel Keogh is to tell the story of her battle to beat addiction on The Late Late Show and in British magazine Cosmopolitan next month.

The Irish 27-year-old is due to open her heart to Pat Kenny and the nation on March 9 as part of keeping track of her difficult journey to total reform.

Sky News Ireland reporter Alison O’Reilly is also filming a documentary on rachel’s life both in London and Ireland.

Since Rachel’s harrowing plight was first revealed, Ms Keogh from Mercer Street in Dublin has been hitting the headlines both in Britain and Ireland.

She had escaped from garda custody after her arrest when she was arrested on shoplifting charges.

After she was arrested by gardaí last year she made an emotional plea for help to beat her addiction at Dublin District Court.

She was released on bail last year and secured a place on a residential detoxification course at the Cuan Dara Treatment Centre in Cherry Orchard Hospital.

The open sores on her arms, which had been badly damaged from nearly 15 years of heroin injections, have begun to heal.

Ms Keogh has continued her remarkable recovery by attending an eight-week detox programme in the Keltoi Residential Centre at Phoenix Park.

“The programme has been really difficult I’ve had to change everything about myself but if it was easy I’d be worried,” she admitted.

“I’m on the sixth week of the course and I’ve been completely clean now for four-and-a-half months.

“I’ve had to challenge all the old demons and deal with a lot of new ones but I’ve got very supportive people around me and thanks to them I’m making a good recovery.”

Over the coming months Rachel plans to write a book about her experiences and also has plans to study at Trinity College. Y
