THERE will be one mighty exodus from the Irish community in Manchester in November.

Some 70 family members are heading to Co. Kerry to celebrate a special occasion.

And they’ll be joined by more from London, Mayo, Derry and all across Kerry as they descend on the village of Keele near Castlemaine.

It’s all to celebrate the 80th birthday of Deborah Serridge — nee O’Brien.

Deborah was born in Keele and now lives in Withington in Manchester.

But she’ll be returning to her native village along with more than 70 family and friends for her 80th celebrations.

The group flies out on November 9 and November 11.

They’ll be staying in Killarney and Boolteens village and be greeted when they arrive by over 100 friends and relatives still living in the Castlemaine area.

Deborah — known to her family and friends as Ciss — left Ireland in 1947 when she was just 17 years old.

She met her husband Tom — a native of Castleteehan in Co. Roscommon — in Manchester and it was there that they made a life for themselves

raising five children, 17 grandchildren and also three great-grandchildren.

All her children and grandchildren will be travelling with her along with many of their spouses and family friends.

The whole weekend reaches its climax in The Anvil Inn at Boolteens on November 10 when everybody will be meeting up.
