Irishman has faith in ancient art of healing

By Trevor O’Sullivan

Despite the continuing advances in medical science, the ancient Irish practice of faith healing continues to enjoy a devout following.

And when it comes to the power of the laying on of hands Danny Gallagher has no equal.

He is the seventh son of a seventh son and according to ancient Celtic lore such a person possesses the power to heal people simply by touching them.

For over 30 years Derry-born Gallagher has been using his gift to perform medical miracles and change people’s lives.

His cures have included restoring the sight of 40-year-old Birmingham housewife Jean Pritchett who had been blind for 22 years and helping wheelchair-bound Mary Mullan from Co. Tyrone to walk once again.

So what does the ‘Maghera Miracle Man’ believe is the reason for his ability to heal?

He said: “I believe this is a gift from God to help others. My faith is very strong and I respect the talent he has given me. When I lay my hands on someone who wants to be cured I feel a warm sensation surge from my body. They feel it too and many people have described it as a warm soothing energy.”

Unlike many healers the Irishman doesn’t charge for his services.

Instead he is happy to accept any donation people can afford to make.

He is also keen to state that while successfully helping thousands to better health, he does not heal everyone.

He said: “I don’t promise to offer a cure to everybody. In all my letters that I send out to people I always strongly stress that everyone should go to a doctor first. It is very important that they do that.

“It’s when a doctor can’t help them that they are very welcome to visit me.”

Gallagher regularly visits Britain and his method of healing remains the same wherever he is.

Holding a small crucifix, he lays his hands on the troubled part of the body and says his special prayer.

Afterwards he lights a candle and blesses it.

He said: “I feel very happy for the person when they’re cured. It usually takes three visits before a person is cured. Most people start to notice an improvement after six weeks.”
