Irish holiday snaps could help in the search for missing Madeleine
The
parents of Madeleine McCann are continuing the appeal to help find their
missing child by asking Irish tourists to send their holiday photographs
to investigators.
Gerry and Kate McCann hope that any Irish holidaymakers who were in the
Algarve at the time of Madeleine’s kidnap will now send their holiday
snaps to police so they can be checked for possible suspects in the background
of photos.
The couple has also expressed their deep gratitude to Irish people for
the amount of support they have received since their little girl vanished.
On a special appeal, which was screened last week on RTÉ’s
Crimecall, Kate Mc-Cann said she has been overwhelmed by the support she
and her husband have received from Ireland for their search for the four-year-old
who was snatched from their holiday apartment in Portugal.
She said: “It’s been fantastic to be honest. We’ve had
so much support from Ireland. I mean overwhelming, I’d say.
“And we reckon that half the letters we’ve had are from the
Irish. We’re very grateful for that, it’s really helped.”
Her husband Gerry said: “The amount of people we’ve met here
in Praia da Luz who say to us: ‘All of Ireland is praying for you’
is phenomenal.”
On the programme the couple appealed to anyone who may have been holidaying
in the Algarve around the time of Madeleine’s abduction to check
photos they may have taken.
British police have advanced computer recognition equipment that can pick
up suspects in the background of holiday snaps.
Many holidaymakers have already forwarded their snaps.
