Hunt is on for culture anthem for Liverpool The search
is on for a song to represent Liverpool in the Capital of Culture year.
Radio City launched a hunt to find a special song to become an anthem
for Liverpool’s 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations.
The competition is part of the Open Culture project and is a platform
to enable the people of Liverpool to be part of celebrations connected
with 2008.
It gives local artists the opportunity to get their talents recognised
and become a part of Liverpool history.
The song — which can be in any genre from pop to rap, country, soul
or folk — will be professionally recorded at Merseysound Studios
and be played on Radio City 96.7, Magic 1548 and BBC Radio Merseyside.
The shortlist will be chosen by Radio City and Magic 1548 and finalists
will then be available to hear online with members of the public voting
for their favourites.
Songs should be sent on CD or cassette only to Song For Liverpool, Radio
City 96.7, St. John’s Beacon, 1 Houghton Street, Liverpool L1 1RL,
and need to include music and lyrics.
The competition is open to any local singer/songwriters in Merseyside,
the North West and North Wales.
