Grandparents hold Knock vigil for missing Madeleine
The
grandparents of missing Madeleine McCann have travelled to Ireland to
take part in a candlelight vigil and to pray for their granddaughter’s
safe return.
Large numbers joined Sue and Brian Healy, Kate McCann’s parents
in Knock, Co. Mayo last Friday night in a four-hour mini-vigil to pray
for the safety of the little girl who has now been missing for nearly
two months.
Knock parish priest Monsignor Quinn said he was delighted to facilitate
the family during this distressing time.
He said: “It’s a gesture of goodwill to the family really
and a show of solidarity from the Irish people.”
“The mini-vigil on Friday night gave people an opportunity to pray
together for a good outcome for this saga that has gone on for so long
now.”
“We have these vigils every now and then we’ll have a rosary
procession and the holy hour.”
With relatives living in Donegal, Madeleine’s family have been
inundated with messages of support from the people of Ireland.
A massive amount of Mass cards from the revered Knock shrine inspired
her grandparents to take the trip over here.
Knock native Caroline Jones, who lives in Liverpool, said the Healy and
McCann families had been overwhelmed with the response of the Irish and
felt a special calling to travel to Knock as a result.
