Churches two-faced over child abuse

AT one time you would have been forgiven for assuming the Catholic Church was the only religious organisation in the world to suffer from allegations of sexual abuse within its ranks.

Well, not so.

Recently a vicar was jailed for five-and-a-half years in Britain for his abuse of boys over a 30-year period.

Cover-ups are not the sole domain of the Catholic Church but they are an absolute disgrace and those responsible of whatever persuasion should be exposed and charged and punished.

To abuse an innocent child is one of the worst crimes I can think of and no punishment is too severe.

To deliberately cover up this abuse is equally abhorrent and I don’t see how those responsible can look themselves in the mirror every morning and feel comfortable.

These same liars and hypocrites preach Christianity and lecture everybody on morality and right and wrong.

They expect the community to respect them because of their cloth but give no respect in return.

The only thing they seem to care about is protecting the good name of their organisation.

They even appear willing to sacrifice the innocence of children to that end.

The overwhelming majority of clerics are dedicated, caring men and women and they must be truly horrified at every new revelation.

However, they also must accept that they have a duty to help expose the perpetrators by whatever means necessary.

If their superiors are reluctant to take proper action then they themselves must act regardless of the consequences.

The welfare of children is far too important.
