P.S. I Love You opens in Britain this week Fans
in Britain are bracing themselves for the release of the hit film P.S
I Love You, which hits our cinema screens on Friday, January 4.
The film is based on the book written by Dubliner Cecelia Ahern and was
first published in 2004 when she was only 21-years-old.
It reached the No.1 bestseller status in Ireland, Britain, USA, Germany
and the Netherlands.
Four of Ahern’s novels have been published and she has also contributed
a number of short stories to various anthologies.
The film has so far received critical acclaim in the US and stars Hilary
Swank and Gerard Butler as Holly and Gerry.
The novel’s main character is Holly Kennedy, a recently widowed
30-year-old woman living in Dublin.
When we first meet Holly she is emotionally devasted by the death of her
husband Gerry from a brain tumour and she does not want to keep living
without him.
A little later, on a trip to her mother’s house, Holly picks up
a mysterious package that is addressed to her from Gerry.
It contains 10 envelopes with notes that he wrote her to be opened on
the first of every month starting the month after he died.
The letters are thoughtful, and range from the exotic to things to help
Holly get her life back on track.
Each one ends with the novel’s title phrase, PS, I Love You.
With the help of her friends Denise and Sharon, Holly finds a way to keep
going even when the one thing she loved more than anything else has stopped.
Other cast members include Kathy Bates, Harry Connick Jr, Gina Gershon
and Lisa Kudrow.
The film was shot in Dublin and New York in October 2006. |
