| Iran hostage crisis is all smoke
and mirrors SO
Iran finally released the 15 British service personnel they were holding
as hostages. Did anybody for one moment really think they would not?
Did anybody seriously think a country anxious to show the world that they
were responsible enough to have nuclear power would execute British subjects
or even keep them indefinitely?
It makes you wonder if that was the whole point of capturing them?
There was no way on this earth that they would do anything except release
them when they were good and ready and had fully exploited the situation.
All the huffing and puffing was just media fodder and the British Government
was delighted to milk it for all it was worth with a “see, we told
you what Iran was like” attitude.
The final insult came when I heard the name Max Clifford in connection
with the so-called hostages.
Can’t you just see the soldiers being checked for their kit before
setting off for Iraq and Afghanistan?
Now let us see if you have everything lads and lasses? Gun, razor, toothpaste,
underwear, mobile phone, Max Clifford’s number in case you are captured
— and remember to only give your name, rank, serial number, publicist
and anything else they want to know.
This whole bizarre episode is increasingly hard to believe.
The big question for me is just what they were doing in that particular
stretch of water anyway?
Somebody is not telling the truth.
If there was a question mark over the boundaries why did they not err
on the side of caution and avoid any possible confrontation?
What the hell difference did it make?
Were they put there deliberately and provocatively with the knowledge
of what exactly would happen?
Was is meant to provide ammunition for the Government in its stance against
Iran?
Was there a secret deal negotiated regarding the Iranians held by the
US?
While I don’t pretend to know any more than you do I must say that
I don’t believe a word this Government publishes.
Iran says it now has nuclear power for civilian purposes only. So what
so do loads of other countries. What is the problem?
They deny that they want it for use in weapons.
Let me make it quite clear that while I am not defending Iran for one
moment, what about Israel who refuses to even confirm or deny having nuclear
weapons?
According to some reports Israel has anything up to 200 nuclear weapons.
It seems that there is one law for certain countries and a different law
for others.
I recently read a report that Lithuania uses nuclear power to produce
77 per cent of the country’s electricity.
Iran’s main crimes in the eyes of Britain and the United States
seems to be it’s geographic location and the fact that it is an
Islamic state.
These are not sufficient reasons for going to war but having said that
it has not stopped them up to now.
The prospect that the US could attack Iran and is quite capable of doing
so is too terrifying to even contemplate.
