Does art hold the secret of life?
By Malcolm Rogers
Now
I have to tell you (if I haven’t already done so) my interest in
art is largely confined to portraits of myself.
However I’m occasionally persuaded to venture a little further into
this subject and last week I found myself at an exhibition of August Strindberg’s
in Dublin.
The advance publicity spoke of how the paintings espoused an “introspective
way of approaching the world and trying to make some sense of what life
is about and how best to see it.”
Well, anybody who can do that is worth a bit of time!
So was it as good as its word?
I would say that the exhibition did bring me a little bit closer to the
secret of life but on the question of whether I exist or not I decided
to take a wait-and-see attitude.
In an effort to further clarify this situation I then repaired to Doheny
& Nesbitt’s to further ruminate but regrettably no further sense
was forthcoming. |
