Brave victim of Ireland’s
roads is battling back
At the age of 21 most people are looking forward to the best years of
their life.
So it was with Claire Noone. She was preparing to begin studying to become
a legal executive, had plans to move in with the boyfriend she had known
since the age of 16 and dreamed of one day raising a family.
All that was swept away from her in an instant when she and her partner
became two more victims of the appalling carnage on Ireland’s roads.
Claire’s boyfriend was killed instantly and she herself suffered
horrendous brain injuries when their car was hit by another vehicle.
So bad was the crash that doctors believed Claire had little chance of
survival.
But as we report this week not only did she survive she has since gone
on to make remarkable progress.
True, she still needs constant care — but thanks to the dedication
of her devoted family and the medical staff looking after her she can
now communicate and has come further in 12 months than anyone thought
possible at the time of the accident.
Now she needs to take the next step. To do that the family have to raise
some 100,000 to send her to Germany for specialised treatment.
It’s treatment that would set her even further along the road to
some sort of recovery.
Already friends of Claire’s relatives in the Northamptonshire town
of Corby have rallied round to contribute to the appeal.
Now Irish people across Britain have the chance to join with them in helping
this remarkable woman get the help she deserves.
What happened to Claire and her boyfriend was a tragedy and another example
of how lives are being wrecked daily on Ireland’s roads.
But if Claire’s family can raise the money to pay for further rehabilitation
in Germany at least she may have a happier future.
