America’s terrifying fascination with guns

A boy aged just 11, armed with a powerful handgun, shot a huge wild boar weighing over 1,000lbs.

The incident happened in Alabama and the pictures showed the boy standing proudly beside the unfortunate animal.

He pursued the boar for several hours and fired seven shots into it before finally finishing it off with a shot to the head.

He said that it felt good.

Which bit felt good I wonder?

Was it the feeling of power as a wounded animal tried to avoid being killed?

Was the poor boar’s suffering even given a moment’s consideration?

Its huge head will be mounted on a board.

I consider this to be barbaric and it makes you wonder at the mentality of some parents.

I don’t blame the boy but the question has to be asked just what the hell is an

11-year-old doing with a powerful handgun?

What makes him want to kill a living creature just for fun?

The giant boar never harmed him and probably never would — it is sick. America’s obsession with guns is terrifying and the results are too frequent and tragic.

The cycle has to stop sometime but the gun lobby is very powerful.

The young boy will probably grow into manhood having progressed to even bigger and more powerful weapons and pass on his passion to the next generation.

I find that extremely sad and disturbing.

Killing wild animals just for fun is disgusting and should be outlawed.

It has no place in a civilised world.

Perhaps next time the boar will win.
