Enjoy the bonhomie

IT seems there’s no end of historic meetings in Ireland these days.

No sooner had Gerry Adams and Ian Paisley staged their momentous Stormont press conference where they pledged to work together in a power-sharing government then the DUP leader is hot-footing it to Dublin to shake hands with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

“I’d better shake hands with this man,” Mr Paisley quipped as the two men met at the doors of Farmleigh House.

Can anyone imagine that happening just a few months ago?

Whether this new spirit of co-operation and bonhomie from the DUP will last remains to be seen. But for the moment let’s just enjoy it.
