Sir Bob’s Nobel effort

Irish humanitarians and rock stars Bono and Bob Geldof missed out on being awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Instead the International Atomic Energy Agency and its director general Mohamed ElBaradei were bestowed with the honour.

The Irish pair, who were understood to have been nominated for their fight to end world poverty, had created a frenzy of interest in the lead up to last weeks awards. Their odds were reduced from 66-1 to 7-1 after a Norwegian prize commentator included them among his favourites.
