Morrissey’s Pete’s mate

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has found a friend in the former The Smiths frontman Morrissey who has slammed the media for their treatment of the Babyshambles star.

The former Libertines frontman has led something of a chequered life, including drug-taking and spells in rehab but Morrissey has hit out at the media for encouraging the behaviour rather than trying to help him.

The singer says: “I’m not sure he can cope. There’s a desperation to him. I sense he’s on thin ice.

“It’s all very giggle-worthy for NME (British music magazine) to report two hours after a gig that he’s in a crack house in Glasgow but I don’t find that amusing.”
