MOHAIR
Small Talk
There isn’t a dull moment when it comes to Mohair’s new album Small Talk.
Laying the foundations of what could be one of the most interesting albums
of the year, Tom, Pete, Alex and Tim — who make up Mohair — show what
they’re best at with Small Talk.
The album kicks off with the enigmatic Keep It Together and just as you’re
settling into the upbeat enthusiasm of the tune, the trumpet playing drummer
leads into a mass of harmonies that will surprise even the most expectant of
listeners.
Another of their tracks Life does well to evoke romantic notions of great
lives lived and lost after the anthemic Mohair-styled track Stranded.
The tune, however, which gives most credence to the quartet and their work
is the album’s final offering Thin Air.
This, perhaps more than any other track, indicates the emotive intelligence
and subtlety in their work.
All in all Small Talk represents a richness that is all too rare in the
realms of today’s music industry.
Diverse and clever — Mohair deserve to do well with this.
