Remembering Lizzie’s Lynott
By Grainne McLoughlin
A statue of the Thin Lizzy’s frontman Phil Lynott has recently been unveiled in Dublin as a tribute to his memory.
Hundreds of fans turned out to see the historic moment as Lynott’s mother, Philomena, and Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Catherine Byrne, unveiled the life-size sculpture — designed by sculptor Paul Daly — on Dublin’s Harry Street, just off Grafton Street.
Among the bands greatest hits were The Boys are Back in Town, Whiskey in the Jar and Rosalie. But Lynott also went on to have a successful solo career before he died from an drug overdose in 1986.
A tribute concert was also held at the capital’s Point Theatre, where Eric Bell, Brian Downey and Wheatus and Therapy are set to perform. |
