| Golden Globe triple for acting’s
elite
The Irish film industry is delighting in a Golden Globe triple after
Cork actors Cillian Murphy and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Hollywood heartthrob
Pierce Brosnan were all nominated in the prestigious awards.
Murphy, who has starred in Cold Mountain, Batman Begins and Red Eye, received
his nomination for his role in Neil Jordan’s film Breakfast On Pluto.
Fellow actor Rhys Meyers, who also hails from Cork, was nominated in the
Best Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television category
for his role in Elvis.
And Brosnan — who is in direct competition from Murphy in his category
— was nominated for his starring role in The Matador.
Other nominees included Ed Harris for Empire Falls, Donald Sutherland
for Human Trafficking and Kenneth Branagh for Warm Springs.
Movie legend Anthony Hopkins is set to receive the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime
Achievement Award for Acting.
The winners of the prestigious 63rd Golden Globe awards will be announced
on January 17. |
