| Kennedy in a Eurovision Shocker
By Grainne McLoughlin
In the shock showbiz news of the week it was announced Irish singer Brian
Kennedy will perform in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Yes, you read
it right — the highly-acclaimed, much-respected and hugely-talented singer-cum-author-cum-presenter
has agreed to represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest.

If, like me, you’re not quite sure how to digest that one it might be
a good idea to consider the dilemma the RTÉ had on their hands. After being
something of a Eurovision superpower in the past our failures in recent
years have proved a particularly hard pill to swallow.
But while RTÉ has decided to play it safe, Kennedy — who’s performed
with Van Morrison, The Corrs, Tina Turner, Paul Brady and Sinéad O’Connor
— seems to have taken a bit of a chance.
The public will get to choose Kennedy’s entry in a reality TV style programme
similar to the You’re a Star talent competition which selected the entrants
in recent years.
A committee made up of two-times Eurovision-winning songwriter and co-writer
of You Raise Me Up, Brendan Graham, former Eurovision winner, Shay Healy
and singer songwriter, Paul Brady will select the final four songs.
