Festival fever is set to take over when Cork’s 50th Film Festival opens
with a special gala celebration.
The weeklong festival — which runs from October 9-16 — will kick off
with a screening of De Sica’s The Eye of the Pilot. But one of the highlights
of the week is sure to be the screening of the world premiere of Beloved
Enemy, a 1939 film based on the life of Michael Collins, which is the only
known print to feature the original unhappy ending.
Another screening that’s expected to prove very popular is the comic
documentary GuinnessSize Me, in which two Irish filmmakers explore the effects
of only drinking Guinness for a week.
The Cork Show Grounds will also play host to a 1950s drive-in cinema.
