Cillian’s After Colin’s Crown

By Grainne McLoughlin

Colin Farrell might have to watch his back as a fellow Irish actor and friend could be about to take his glorified crown.

Hollywood heartthrob Cillian Murphy has been nominated for two Irish Film and Television Awards — Best Actor for his performance in Red Eye and Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Batman Begins.

But it won’t be an easy ride as competition is fierce. Other nominees in the Best Film Actor include Gabriel Byrne for Wah Wah, Liam Neeson for Kinsey and Aidan Quinn for Convicted.

The Best Supporting Actor category sees Cillian face David Kelly for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sean McGinley for On A Clear Day and Tadhg Murphy for Boy Eats Girl.

Other nominees include singer Andrea Corr, Jillian Bradbury, and Winnie Maughan.

Mickybo & Me, The Mighty Celt, Pavee Lackeen, Tara Road and Trouble With Sex are nominated for Best Film.

And the nominees for Best Director are Anthony Byrne for Short Order, Fintan Connolly for Trouble With Sex, Terry George for Hotel Rwanda and Perry Ogden for Pavee Lackeen.

The awards will take place on November 5.
