Van’s night at Oscars

Van Morrison is to be honoured with a prestigious award ahead of the Oscars next year.

The Belfast-born music legend is said to be one of three Irish stars who will be celebrated at the Oscar Wilde: Honouring Irish Writing In Film party in February for his contribution to over 50 films.

While he has been involved with numerous blockbusters, including Bridget Jones’s Diary, Thelma And Louise, and As Good As It Gets, his most recent project is Martin Scorsese’s soon-to-be-released The Departed. The film — which Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Whalberg and Martin Sheen — features Van and the band performing the Pink Floyd classic Comfortably Numb.
