Van Morrison to play exclusive
club gig
It
pays to have friends in high places — especially when you’re
opening a new club in London.
Waterford entrepreneur Vince Power has bagged personal friend and music
legend Van Morrison to play an exclusive show at his newly-launched cabaret
venue The Pigalle Club.
The Brown Eyed Girl singer is set to play the Piccadilly nightspot on
June 16 to capacity crowd of only 260.
But the chance to see Morrison play such an intimate gig won’t come
cheap with admission into the exclusive club priced at £100.
“It is expensive,” said one fan of the Belfast singer. “But
where else would you get to see Van the Man in such a setting? I’d
say it’ll be well worth it. And sure what better way to see Van?”
The Pigalle Club is named after Al Burnett’s famous Piccadilly club
which belonged to the same school of clubs as both The Ad Lib and Crazy
Elephant.
It opened in the late 1940s and was the launch pad for an array of famous
artists including Tony Bennett, Shirley Bassey and Sammy Davis Jr.
It also played host to some of the world’s most celebrated performers
including The Beatles and Peggy Lee before closing its doors in the late
1970s.
And now Power — founder of the Mean Fiddler Music Group —
is hoping to have similar fortune.
If his history is anything to go by, it’s sure to be a hit.
